Welcome to the April Pinto Post!

What a weird, confusing and wild time to be alive, right? Luckily volunteers can comply with social distancing and other CDC guidelines and still be on the range. Despite the uncertainty, work continues on! Stay healthy and read all about stories, rescues and highlights from the range in the safety and comfort of your home. Don’t worry, we’ll make sure to add extra cute pictures to help you pass the time.

Fertility Control Program Hitting New Milestones

This month, read all about how AWHC darting volunteers are navigating the COVID-19 pandemic and how they’re using their “staycation” to double down on the fertility control efforts. Be sure to check out the most updated PZP darting numbers and learn why you may see more babies on the range this year.

Local Happenings

March was a slow month with the efforts on the range pressing on despite the uncertainty COVID-19 brings. This month read all about mustang baby watch, how volunteers Terry and Chuck Staton are helping combat COVD-19 in their community, and read a special article by LBL Equine Rescue.

Monthly Highlights

There are so many fantastic, devoted volunteers and interesting horses in the Virginia Range, and month after month, the Pinto Post is honored to share their stories. Be sure to read about veteran darter, and herd lead extraordinaire, Tamara Gerdts, and learn about the importance of first steps of a foal’s life. We’ve also included lots of cute, fuzzy foal pictures help you pass the time while staying at home to help flatten the curve of COVID-19!

March was a slow rescue month, except for one impressive rescue of a mom, Spats, and her foal Starlight. Read all about their story and how you can help them! Be sure to read about Least Resistance Training Concepts’s new lifesaving equipment and what it means for Virginia Range wild horse rescues.

Please use the above number if you see horses or foals injured, sick, or at risk. Where does your call go? Your call goes to a 24/7 answering service that will connect with an on-call volunteer. From there volunteers, proper agencies and organizations will be dispatched. This includes, but is not limited to, local organizations, a large animal rescue team, and the sheriff's office in the corresponding area.
