In Loving Memory of Frost
By Margaret Dziolek
In the stillness of night, when dark meets the dawn, while the stars softly twinkle and then fade, into nothingness…yet everything, all at once…giving way to the rising sun. Because we know that all of the light in the heavens cannot burn at the same time. One must fade for the other to shine. It is a give and take. Not one is more beautiful, or desired, than the other.
A new day has dawned on the Virginia Range…cool and clear and crisp with whispers of autumn carried by the gentle breeze. Yet, it is but a matter of time, before the world stops and the hearts break and the tears fall and cries of all who loved you echo through this valley.
This land of the free and the wild…that you called “home”. This land that was your birthplace…this land that fed you and gave water to your thirst…this land that carried your hooves as you galloped across the desert horizon, your beauty and grace and courage unmatched. This land that was now saturated with the tears of those who loved you…this land that you laid down upon and drew your final breath. This land that now holds your earthly body.
In the dawn, just before the light. Before the world stopped… You found your way “home”. Your heart guided you to your safe place. You found your way back to two people that you trusted. Two people that loved you…because love is your birthright. And these two people did all the right things, through love, and with love, to bring the justice you so rightly deserve.
So, dear Frost, as we gather together, in your honor, as one broken heart leaning on another, and light the candles in the dark of night…may we also look to the desert sky. And set our eyes upon the brightest star…that which is your light. Your light, this light, that will guide us onward. Reminding us that even in the dark, through all that is evil in this world, there is hope when we stand together. And as we close our eyes and whisper your name to the night sky, we shall hear you once again as the winds blow through the sands of the desert terrain. We shall watch as you gallop through the stars in the night sky…and fade into nothingness, yet everything, all at once…as you make your way into eternal life beyond. And your memory will be with us each day …as the sun rises above the desert horizon and sunlight bathes the autumn leaves with its golden glow.
It is a new day…and everything will be OK.
