fertility Control update
By the Numbers:
Total Mares Treated: 1,878
This month we recognize 4 years of the Virginia Range Fertility Control program. We started with a bang in the middle of the foaling season in 2019. Over the last few years, our incredible documenters and darters have been out in all weather, all times of the year. They have meticulously photographed and tracked nearly all of the horses on the range, and darted breeding age mares. This month we celebrate their groundbreaking work humanely halting population growth by reducing foal births and moving into population reduction, as less horses are born to begin their life cycle than those whose life cycle ends, wild and free as they should be. They are an incredible team!
